Star Work № 19: DEIN GEILSTER MÄDCHENFLUGKÖRPER SCHREIT TOTALST: NUR VORNE IST EVOLUTION IM SCHRITT „MARSCH MARSCH“, VERSACHLICHT ALLES.

Jonathan Meese

Jonathan Robin Meese is a painter, sculptor, set designer and agitator in the service of art. He is one of the most controversial artists of his generation in Germany. Frequently his art deals with sometimes controversial personalities from world history, primal myths and heroic sagas. His most important theme is the dictatorship of art. His manic drivenness has caused the designation “neurotic realism” to be applied to his art.

The typical characteristics of his art can also be found in “DEIN GEILSTER MÄDCHENFLUGKÖRPER…” – for example, the “Iron Cross” or an oversized penis painted with dirty colours and a gestural application of paint that can well be described as brutal. This apparently naive concept of the picture, however, cannot avoid conveying painterly ability and sensitivity in the selection of colours. Contradictory, loud, tactless and sometimes presenting trashy pictures, Meese always manages to attract attention and – not least of all for this reason – is considered to be one of the most important German artists of the present era.
