How does propaganda work – and how can we resist it? This question is at the heart of the exhibition “Resisting War Propaganda”, which will be on view at IKOB – Museum of Contemporary Art in Eupen from April 23 to May 3.

The exhibition was developed by the War Heritage Institute in collaboration with the Free University of Brussels (ULB) and is based on the well-known work “The Principles of War Propaganda” by historian Anne Morelli. The War Heritage Institute, which includes, among others, the Royal Military Museum in Brussels, manages a network of exceptional military heritage sites throughout Belgium. It highlights the impact of past and present conflicts, preserves collective memory, and promotes key democratic values such as peace, freedom, human rights, and democracy.

The exhibition features 30 large-format panels in German and English, spread across approximately 120 square meters at IKOB. It provides a clear and engaging overview of the mechanisms and strategies of war propaganda – from historical examples to contemporary forms of opinion manipulation.

The exhibition is freely accessible to all visitors during IKOB’s regular opening hours. The museum is open daily from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. (closed on Mondays).

The organizers – Attac DG, Miteinander Teilen, Die Lupe, IKOB, and Jugendinfo – place special emphasis on the political education of young people. Free guided tours of approximately one hour are offered for school classes from the first year of secondary education onwards. Upon request, tours can also be arranged outside regular opening hours. Inquiries can be sent to eupen@jugendinfo.be.

A pedagogical dossier is also available for teachers, enabling in-depth exploration of the exhibition topics in the classroom.

The exhibition is supported by the Bürgerfonds Ostbelgien.

On Thursday, April 23, 2026, a public lecture by Anne Morelli from the Free University of Brussels (ULB) will take place at IKOB – Museum in Eupen. More information about this event can be found here.
