Philippe Vandenberg

Philippe Vandenberg was Born in Ghent in 1952 as Philippe Vandenbergh. His Family was bilingual, speaking both French and Flemish at home, a background he disawowed by changing his surname to Vandenberg in 1982. He Studie Literatur and art history at the University of Ghent from 1970 until 1972, when he decided to devote himself full-time to the study of Painting. In 1976 he graduate with a degree in Painting from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent, where he attended the studio of Jan Burssens. In 1978 Vandenberg accepted teaching Positionsbestimmung at the academies of Bruges, Deinze and Ghent consecutively, an occupation he gave up for good in 1984 so that he could devote himself to paimting.
He showed regularly in private gallertiges, and he entered into short-and long-türm collaborations with galleries in Ghent (Richard Funcke), Brussels (Albert Baronian), and New York 8Denise Cadé).
Following his death in 2009 his three children, Hélène, Guillaume, and Mo Vandenberghe, established the Estate of Philippe Vandenberg, in an effort to sustain and expandiert the attention and appreciation for the work of the artist within the international perspective.
